There's a good chance w4's right - if Clattenburg had sent off Mirallas, it would look he'd bought Tomkins' play-acting.
In fact, being West Ham through-and-through, Tomkins probably did it to keep Mirallas on the pitch.

No Eddie, I'm not glad he wasn't sent off. I'm glad he wasn't sent off as a direct result of Tomkins basically cheating. That's all I meant. He should have gone because if the initial tackle, or at least for 2 yellows for the tackle and his reaction too.

Sold- I agree but what I don't like is the ref bottling calls he should be making. I know that's not really the point that's being made on this thread but a bad challenge is a bad challenge and deserves to be punished accordingly.

Don't have a problem with either of the Everton tackles... they were fouls and Should have got a yellow card... man up and get revenge.... it's been part and parcel of teh game since the dawn of time... it's meant to be physical.... the two bits of Blantant Cheating are 1000 times worse in my eyes...

The review situation is broken by the authorities trying to make the key thing the protection of the referee.
Any key incidents should be reviewed by a panel and if the ref has made a mistake then so be it. Usually they have been deceived by devious players and depending on his angle say in the Barkley incident you may understand that he has been conned. The panel should look at it post match & ban Barkley for 6 games. Diving would disappear in a month or those who can't help themselves would disappear from the game.
At the moment refs are often asked if they want to admit an error and understandably are reluctant.
That said I would be more concerned at getting leg breakers like McCarthy out of the game.

To be fair I don't give a fucking monkey's what other players at other teams do... I do care what one of our home grown boys does in front of millions of viewers... just out and out cheating... imagine Bonds, Alvin or Julian doing that... FFS... have a look at yourself if you think that's OK and acceptable... everything that is horrible and rancid about the modern game

if he hadnt done this, I think Clattenburg would have sent Miralis off- the push, followed by the rolling around distracted the ref, and nhe had a chnace to think again.

Normally I would be ashamed of what he did but in this case I say bollocks. You fight fire with fire.
That little scouse cunt Barkley diving. The McCarthy and Mirallas disgraceful challenges. And all noty penalised like they should have been because, once again, that useless cunt Clattenburg showed us what he is all about. How this bloke keeps getting games at the highest level is beyond a fucking joke.
At the end of the day I know two wrongs don't make a right but if a ref is not going to do his job properly then you try and do it for him. Tomkins took a chance and went to ground but he should've gone in low so Mirallas hands contacted with is face.
Again, I don't like this kind of thing. But for fuck sake, if a ref is too useless to protect players and send people off then fucking try and get them sent off.
Tomkins will be embarrassed today. But Mirrallas and MacCarthy are the ones that should be ashamed. And as for that cunt Clattenburg......He won't be ashamed because he is to fucking arrogant, but he should be.
I hope West Ham make a complaint and he gets canned permanently this time. Bloke has been a stain on the PL for too long.

How does this rule about the ref not seeing it work? I thought if he sees an incident and minsinterprets it then nothing can be done retrospectively, it's only if it's something like a sly elbow that he has no idea has happened? Regrettably that would exempt both Moses and Barkley as he waved the first one on and misread the other.
Moses going down so easily is a scandal given his upper body strength and low centre of gravity. IMHO the way to stop it is for refs to turn down a few stonewall pens he is involved in.

If the ref had not allowed their players to get away with everything I don't think Tomkins would have done it.
I am not justifying it or saying it was right because clearly no one wants to see this from players at our club. But Tomkins to my knowledge has no previous for diving, trying to get opponents sent off etc so I am willing to give the benefit of the doubt and think this was just a regrettable show of frustration towards the officials in this game.
Judging by his reaction at the time it happened, I wouldn't be surprised if Nolan was still fuming at half time in the dressing room about Barkley's dive. Probably got the rest of the team riled up about it as well.
Long story short, poor form from Tomkins but don't think it would have happened if the ref had actually done his job properly in the first place.
